The Speed Boat of Success

by Shahzad Ahmad

Furrowing the ocean like a tractor depositing designs in the land,

foaming the waves in a mass of willowy whiteness

that settles down serenely over the exposed watery layer.

It glides and glistens against the radiance of the sun

sporting its sparkle through speed and breed.

Empowered by its streak of success

it defies the advancing storms and repulses the ravages of the runaway currents.

Gently caressing the commotion of the sea

it holds itself aloft through its characteristic creed.

The dolphins dance with delight

and even the sharks defang their demonic demonstrations.

All the seascape becomes benign for a while

making way for pacific passage of the boat.

All this sudden descent of docility

has been made possible by the winning strokes of the boat.

Only yesterday it trailed well behind others

vulnerable to derision, exposed to hostile examination

inviting the mockery of the same marine dwellers

who never ceased prowling,

rather increased their howling.

The same waves produced the mightiest of opposition,

leaping the boat into a wavering position,

bobbing it up and down in a state of endless agitation.

The sharks and the whales were back to their savage selves,

waiting for the moments of maximum damage.

Even the amiable seagulls shed their coats of acquiescence,

thus, posing resistance from the most innocuous directions.

The script has not changed much over the march of times,

success is a story of roses and chocolates,

but failure is a state of oblivion

that is condemned to a lonely dominion.
