Lamentation
by Kelsey Britt
Quippy Choice Award
The year of your death
I dance. I dance beneath
the shaken rafters I dance until
six am beside the snow stricken
mountains I dance in the dark
purple sheets we once bought
together I dance on the splintered
floor of my new kitchen I dance
among the shattered rocks of
the pacific I dance at the rust
edge of the railroad tracks,
rattled I dance until my knees
ache, until my ears won’t stop
ringing I dance I dance I dance
until I swear that I can see you
next to me once more.
