An Inland Shipwreck

by Andy Perrin

Art: “Rose Ripples for Glennis” by Patricia Cannon

unsettling shipwrecked bones
stark in the shadows of oaks

snow piled upon spectral ribs
and thinned grayed vertebrae

a curved hull sits unskinned
exposed now raw to weather

structures waned through tidal
origins in a shipyard long lost

they struggled weighted by the
labors of berth and christening

journeys unknown retold only
within echoed nocturnal tales

of a storm that tossed her here
to rest within a silent torment

and soon among soft scented
breezes over flowers of spring
